Quandoo

Quandoo is an online restaurant reservation platform, that was founded in 2012 in Berlin, and since then has sat more than 150 million people in 11 different countries. The Brand of course is growing, so it has more needs with this growth. A big part of the Quandoo brand relies on Illustrations, and the previous illustration style was limited to what Quandoo wanted to achieve, for both of its products and communication on B2B/B2C.

Process and Strategy

Define

From the beginning we defined the types of illustrations needed based on our usages, we needed a style that fits all of our platforms. For this we needed Icon illustrations, Spot and scene illustrations.

Visual Research

we looked for styles that visually reflected each word in our tone of voice, and later pinpointed different elements that we voted for as best fit with our brand,collecting them in groups; shapes, composition, background, colour and texture.

Experiment

Approachable, was one of our strong values, so we wanted a style that felt humanistic and positive, for that reason we focused on creating a style that showcased textural elements and organic shapes.

Improve

After several experiments and meetings, we felt comfortable with the style and started to refine it and making sure everything looks consistent.

Create rules

A set of Illustration principles were created to ensure consistency throughout different designers.
